Jacksonville, Florida-The Edward Waters volleyball team stepped out of Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday as they welcomed NCAA Division II and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) member Fort Valley State to the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Center. The Lady Tigers sent their raucous crowd home happy as they defeated the Lady Wildcats, 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-16) and notching their fourth consecutive victory on the young season.
The Lady Tigers current four game winning streak is the longest the team has been on since 2005, when Edward Waters had a six-game winning streak as a member of the defunct Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (EIAC).
EWC was led by Kaylin Davison (SR/Columbus, Ohio) with 12 kills and two aces on the evening, while fellow senior Breona Pelham (SR/Jacksonville, Florida) five kills and a blocking assist for the Lady Tigers. The freshman duo of Emoni Bittle (FR/Quincy, Florida) and Maurica Marsh (FR/Chelsea, Alabama) combined for five kills for EWC, while junior Ashlyn Pavlock (JR/Ruskin, Florida) continues to pad her stats in the assist column with another 18 on the night. Maya Stewart led the Lady Wildcats (0-1) efforts on the night with eight kills and three digs for the visitors.
Edward Waters improves to 5-1 overall with the non-conference victory and will begin a three-game road trip beginning Saturday afternoon, September 9th against GCAC foe Philander Smith. First serve is set for 2:00pm EST/1:00pm CST at Mims Gymnasium in Little Rock, Arkansas.
